Gardenza is a work-in-progress for David Brundell for over 30 years.
The 8-hectare property was originally a dry-stock farm and now boasts a productive kiwifruit orchard and nearly three hectares of sublime subtropical gardens amongst stunning lakes and magical hills (including a volcano!) with breathtaking vistas. Inspirational botanic treasures with seasonal surprises abound and flourish around every corner.
A specialist dedicated nursery has also been created especially for you to purchase exotic bulbs and many other subtropical treasures. These include amaryllids such as Clivia and the Fireball lily from South Africa as well as South American attention-seekers such as the Butterfly Amaryllis and other species Hippeastrum. We also produce many unusual aroids, from low-growers to giants, along with an array of zingebers, such as heliconia, canna and the outrageous Lotus banana. If this is not enough, we offer other delights to tickle your fancy.
We are also a home for truly clonal 'Vico Yellow' clivia. The late Sir Peter Smithers gave David an offset of this famous variety over 25 years ago. With 'Vico Yellow', a stunning range of clivia varieties have been developed that include 'Lunar Impact', 'Heaven Scent', 'Apricot Glow', 'Mighty Sun' and 'Full Moon'.
All the plants produced in the nursery are also thriving in the extraordinary landscape, aiming to assist in your plant choices and give you a greater understanding of their growth habits and cultural characteristics.
Thank you for visiting.
